What she covers
Shawn writes the guides a commuter needs before visiting a dealer: whether an EV fits a daily drive, what charging will cost at home or without a driveway, how incentives changed after the federal credits ended, and what to check on a used EV. She also covers Chinese-brand EVs as one topic, because US readers keep asking about them, and says plainly when a car is not sold through normal US retail.
How she researches a guide
- Primary sources first. EPA and fueleconomy.gov for efficiency, DOE and the Alternative Fuels Data Center for charging and state laws, the IRS for tax credits, EIA for electricity and gas prices, NHTSA for safety and import rules, and manufacturer US pages for current trims and pricing.
- Numbers carry dates. Prices, rates, and incentives change. Each figure is tied to a source and an “as of” date, and readers are pointed to the tool or agency page where they can check the current number.
- Uncertainty is labeled. When something cannot be confirmed, such as US retail plans or a policy still in flux, the guide says so instead of guessing.
- Re-verification is real. The last-verified date on a guide changes only when its sources are actually re-checked.
What she does not do
- She has no employment or financial relationship with any automaker, dealer, charging network, or insurer.
- She does not accept payment, loaner vehicles, or gifts in exchange for coverage.
- She does not claim professional licenses (electrician, tax, legal, or insurance) and does not give personalized legal, tax, or purchase advice.
- She does not describe test drives, ownership, or dealer visits that did not happen.
